On the 28th anniversary of Princess Diana’s death, Jamie Lee Curtis shared messages she exchanged with her shortly before her passing.

The 66-year-old actress used her Instagram account to pay an emotional tribute to the Princess, who died in 1997 in a tragic car accident.

Alongside a photo of a smiling Diana with her arms open wide to her young sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, Curtis recounted how they almost met in person: “She was going to visit the set of the sequel to “A Fish Called Wanda, Fierce Creatures”,” she wrote in the post.

Curtis explained that a trip to the bathroom ultimately prevented her from meeting the princess; “My driver started banging on the door, saying she had arrived with the children, and I jumped into the golf cart and, when I came back, she was leaving,” Curtis said.

The actress recalled that she sent a letter to Diana explaining why she wasn’t present during her visit to the set and expressing her admiration for the princess’s work. To her surprise, she received a reply the very next day.

“She was thanking me for writing and understanding, and hoped we could meet. She died two months later,” Curtis remembered. “I had just returned from England. I remember watching the news…,” she revealed.

In her post, Curtis said that after hearing the news of Diana’s death, she picked up a book on “introspective meditation,” which spoke about “people who tried to live a conscious life at the moment of their death,” which made her think of the princess.

“I immediately thought of Princess Diana and how she had learned to live wisely… She spoke about her own personal struggles and showed courage and compassion…” the star continued about the late member of the royal family.

“And I think we all remember the image of her with her arms outstretched to her children as they ran toward her,” Curtis said, referring to the image she shared. “I am still moved by her grace and courage,” she concluded.
